Module Overview

Est. time60 minutes
TypePipeline
PrerequisitesModule 02 — Establishing the Satellite Baseline
Read firstCamera Matching (Perspective Solving) — the video walkthrough

Description

This module establishes the second anchor: a matched camera. You learn how perspective solving (the fSpy process) recovers a photo's camera parameters from vanishing points, and — through the composed theory references — understand the perspective and camera-matching principles underneath. By the end, a source photo becomes an exactly-placed camera in your Blender scene.

What You'll Be Able to Do

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  1. Explain how perspective solving recovers camera position, orientation, and focal length
  2. Perform the fSpy process step by step: load photo, identify horizon, draw vanishing lines, import the solution
  3. Bring a camera match into Blender and verify it against the source frame
  4. Recognize when a photo won't solve and what to do instead

What's Inside

This module pairs the practical walkthrough with the underlying theory:

Phase 1: The Practice

Do the camera match

Phase 2: The Theory

Understand the principles

Camera Matching (Perspective Solving)

Camera Matching (Perspective Solving): 6 min read

The video walkthrough: how perspective solving works, the fSpy process step by step, from match to Blender, and when a photo won't solve.

You'll learn: How to recover a photo's camera from vanishing points using fSpy — the matched-camera anchor.

Camera and Perspective

Camera and Perspective: 8 min read

The foundational theory: what a camera is, focal length, lens distortion, and perspective principles.

You'll learn: The camera model behind every match — why vanishing points and focal length behave the way they do.

Camera Matching

Camera Matching: 15 min read

The full technique: matching strategies, workflows, and the toolset for matching a camera to source footage.

You'll learn: The complete camera-matching methodology this module's walkthrough is a worked example of.

Analyzing Footage

Analyzing Footage: 4 min read

How to assess source footage before matching — quality, usability, and what you can extract from it.

You'll learn: To read footage critically before committing to a match.
