Meshroom
Introduction
Meshroom is a free, open-source 3D Reconstruction Software based on the AliceVision Photogrammetric Computer Vision framework. It allows you to run the whole photogrammetric pipeline from images to a textured mesh.

Documentation for Methodology
To ensure your work aligns with the Berkeley Protocol and the Guide for Judges, use the following points to document your use of Meshroom.
Methodology: How to document Meshroom
In Your Method Section
Guidance: Describe the purpose, the tool version, and the input data.
- Investigative Objective: To reconstruct a textured 3D mesh from a series of 2D photographs using the AliceVision pipeline.
- Software Version: Meshroom [Version] (e.g., 2023.3.0).
- Input Data: Derived from [Image Set Name] (Source Hash: [First 6 digits]).
In Your Decision Log
Guidance: Record the specific procedural parameters and integrity checks.
- Specific Settings: Feature Descriptor (SIFT/AKAZE), Dense Matching Estimator (Census/SGM), Meshing parameters.
- Assumptions: Assumed the scene was static and contained sufficient texture for feature matching.
- Integrity Check: Verified that analysis was performed on a working copy, not the original evidence file.
- Date Performed: [YYYY-MM-DD].
Verification & Mitigation
Guidance: How did you mitigate bias or verify accuracy?
- Verification: Visually inspected the mesh for noise and holes; compared scale with known reference objects.
- Bias Mitigation: Used default robust settings initially to establish a baseline before tweaking parameters for specific areas.
Common Limitations
- High computational cost and long processing times for large datasets.
- Sensitive to changes in lighting and moving objects (e.g., trees in wind).
Example Methodology Statement
"To reconstruct the incident site, Meshroom (v2023.3.0) was used to process [Number] images [Hash: J1K2L3]. The default AliceVision pipeline was used with SIFT feature extraction. The resulting mesh was scaled using a reference object of [X] meters, with a visual verification of geometry against site photos."
