How Splatting Works
Introductionโ
This module covers the representation underneath the method. A splat model is not a mesh: it is a set of oriented gaussians fitted to a set of images. That difference decides what the model can claim โ and what it cannot. By the end you can read a splat model the way you read a mesh, and state what each one is good for.

| Read first | How Splatting Works |
Learning Outcomesโ
By the end of this module you will be able to:
- Explain how a set of oriented gaussians represents a scene without a mesh
- Compare a splat model against a photogrammetry mesh on accuracy, editability, and measurement
- Decide which representation a given investigative task needs, with the reason stated
Module Contentsโ
The representation: gaussians, opacity, and the training pass that fits them to images โ and why the result is not a mesh.
You'll learn: The model under the method, so the claims you make about a splat reconstruction are claims it can carry.
